Advanced water and gas treatments
Coordinator: Adrián Silva
Objectives
We are facing new challenges with the spread of environmental pollutants. Water and air are highly sensitive, and alternatives to easily minimize contamination are required, aiming at an enhanced quality of life, which is a societal challenge and an expected impact of our activities. The main objective of the thematic research line is to develop tailor-made materials for treatment technologies (oxidation/separation, bioremediation), and solutions combining radiation, oxidants/catalysts and equipment design for water/wastewater and gas treatment.
Major research topics
Design of conventional and advanced treatments for water, wastewaters and gaseous effluents

Combination and integration of physical, chemical and biological processes, and life cycle assessment

Development of tailor-made catalysts, membranes and other materials for treatment technologies

Removal of priority and emerging chemical and biological contaminants, and water reuse

Separation and removal of industrial particles using cyclones technology
