Energy from renewable sources
Coordinator: Adélio Mendes
Objectives
This research group is focused on the development of technologies that lead to the harvest, conversion and storage of energy from renewable sources such as sunlight and indoor light conversion into electricity; cheaper, stable, efficient and environmentally safer photovoltaic panels; electrochemical storage – redox flow batteries, sodium-ion batteries and development of new fuel cells.
Major research topics
Sunlight and indoor light conversion into electricity using PSC and DSSC technologies

Direct sunlight conversion into storable energy fuels (sun fuels)

Electrochemical CO2 reduction to fuels and feedstocks

Fuel cells

Electrochemical energy storage – batteries

Biomass as a resource for renewable energy
